Wigs 4 Kids

Student council is doing some interesting stuff lately.

We are going for a tour on Saturday at Wigs 4 Kids in St. Clair Shores.  This is not a volunteering effort, but rather, a chance for students to become involved in volunteering.  Students who attend this tour can then volunteer at the shop whenever they ask.  This tour is a requirement for your student to be able to volunteer at the shop.  Students must be 12 or older to volunteer after this introduction event.
After Saturday's tour, students can volunteer whenever they'd like at Wigs 4 Kids, as long as the owner and manager is contacted previously.  If there are further questions about this, please email us.

Student Council is also starting our 'Cocoa Cafe' again on Friday mornings.  Our first week has been a raging success as students purchased lots of tickets to watch a movie on Friday morning.  Students who purchase a ticket will be able to hang out in the media center and drink hot cocoa from 8-8:30AM.  Tickets need to be purchased at lunch or the mornings before the event.  Tickets may be sold at the door based on whether or not we are at capacity.

Also, student council is looking for other volunteer opportunities. Many places require students to be 16 or over in order to volunteer, so we are asking for any recommendations.  If you or a family member know of an opportunity for our students, we would greatly appreciate it.

Our next meeting and last for 2015 is December 17, 2015.  Be there!!!!

Hey again,

For those of you wondering, we had great success with our first event of the year, our #Throwback Assembly. Now, we are on to planning our biggest and best year so far.  Please pay attention to the schedule as we only have meetings every other week.  We are working on adding a community-based volunteering event and a fundraising event.  If you have any connections or ideas about how to get our kids out there and helping others, please email myself or Ms. Kubiak.

New Student Council Updates

Good morning! My name is Melissa Kubiak and I am one of the Student Council advisers at KMS. I will be writing to you periodically to let you know what is going on with our student council and to keep you up to date on our activities.

We have a few after school activities coming up for Spirit Week that we would love to have students participate in:

Next Wednesday, October 7th students are invited to assist our PTC in creating our float for the homecoming parade. Work will take place in the KMS parking lot from 4-7 PM. All students are welcome to attend!

Next Friday, October 9th is the Homecoming parade. Students are invited to walk along in the parade with our float. If your student is interested in walking they would need to meet the student council in the KMS parking lot at 4:30. Parade begins at 5 PM. The route takes us to Lake Shore High School and students can be picked up there or can join you to watch the Homecoming game.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me or Mr. Sprader (bsprader@lsps.org).

Applications and Spirit Week

Students received Student Council applications at the last meeting, September 17.  These applications need to be filled out and returned before our next meeting on October 1.

Our spirit week kicks off October 5 this year and we will be dressing up for each of these great days.  See the file below in order to plan ahead.  Also, because of spirit week, student council will be helping with the float that will be in the Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 9.  Students can volunteer to help on the float anytime that week and will be walking with the float as it makes it's way to Lake Shore High School from Kennedy Middle School on Friday after school.

If there are any questions about this, please email Ms. Kubiak or Mr. Sprader.

Thanks

Welcome Back!

Student Council is excited to bring another year full of spirit and school pride.  We are accepting applications beginning September 8.  Our first meeting will be September 17, 2015.  We will be meeting the Student Council Board, learning about the student expectations for attendance and participation, and pass out student applications.  Students who want to join student council need to have an application filled out, one teacher signature, and one parent's signature.  Students who have already been accepted into student council do not have to apply, but do need to follow the group's expectations.

Student application is attached below.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of the group sponsors, Mkubiak@LSPS.org or Bsprader@LSPS.org.

Welcome one and all!

Student Council is a great group and we're all looking forward to a great 2014-2015 school year.

Just a reminders and updates for this year:

Student Council is currently selling holiday grams to deliver to students.  These can be purchased at lunch for fifty cents or one dollar.

Our meeting calendar (click to download file)
Student Council meetings take place almost every Thursday morning in the media center.  During this time, students are expected to sign in, contribute to the group, and work on student council events.  Attending meetings is required in order to attend our field trips and events.

Our Group Activity calendar (click to download file)
Throughout the year, Student Council helps plan and prepare for several celebrations days during our school day.  These activities and events are planned months in advance and take a lot of time to complete.

There are more details to come with student council.  If there are any questions, please email Bsprader@lsps.org or Kkraus@lsps.org
